In Touch

We leave traces of ourselves wherever we go, on whatever we touch. - Lewis Thomas

I allow no one to touch me. - Paul Cezanne

"In Touch" is a mediated public participatory experiment by The Art Guys that was conceived and designed for Texas A&M University as part of a visiting artist program as presented by the Academy of Performing & Visual Arts.

"In Touch" invites students and from all over Texas A&M campus, and audiences from all over the world, to participate.

Using their smart phones, students were invited to scan QR codes (Quick Response Code) that were printed on plastic yard signs which were placed throughout the campus. These QR codes provided the participants with information about how to engage with "In Touch." Below is an example of these yard signs.

The scan reads,"On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. CDT, you are invited to come to a location where a gift will be waiting for you. Scan the QR code to the right for this location." The second QR code gives the exact location, using GPS coordinates, in the J. Wayne Stark Galleries in the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University.

On Wednesday, April 16, between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m, The Art Guys were present at this location where they handed out business cards with more QR codes on them. On one side of these cards was a seletion of the "touch scores" presented above. The reverse side of these cards directed students to this website. An example of these business cards is below.

You are invited to participate in The Art Guys' project "In Touch" by scanning the QR codes below and performing the "touch score" described in each. Please share with your friends.

Recommended scanning app and barcode reader for smart phones to translate the QR codes:
